When it comes to barbecue Kansas City is King, with more than 100 barbecue restaurants in the metro area where visitors and denizens alike delight in finger-lickin’, lip smackin’ barbecue practically 24/7. What follows is just a saucy smattering of what the Barbecue Capital of the World has to offer.

Good Morning, Dear!

Southmoreland on the Plaza

Bed and breakfast guests start the day with grilled croissant French Toast stuffed with grilled peaches and topped with maple pecan bourbon syrup, molasses brined pork chops prepared on the grill and strawberry mango frappes—an amazing combination of sweet, salty, chewy and crunchy—all on one plate.

Rye Restaurant

Try the Burnt End Hash for weekend brunch, made with a spicy tomato sauce and sunny side eggs (also served at their Bluestem Restaurant in Westport). And, their classic Shrimp and Grits plate topped with flavorful, slightly tangy pulled pork, is out of this world.

Let’s do Lunch

Brobeck’s Barbeque

Try the Smokey Joe—a Sloppy Joe-style sandwich made with chopped beef, ham and pork and gently tossed with a delectable barbecue sauce. And, unlike your typical ham salad spread, Brobeck's is a very unusual yet addictive mélange of chopped smoked ham, turkey, brisket and barbecue rub spices, served as sandwich or with their homemade potato chips.

Sol Cantina

The Cowboy Quesadilla transforms the customary flour tortilla filled with cheese, chicken or beef plus fillings by using slow cooked barbecued burnt ends with a spicy barbecue dipping sauce on the side. In the soft tacos, the burnt ends are topped with shredded cabbage, tomatoes, jack and cheddar cheese and a creamy barbecue sauce.

What Time is it? Happy Hour Time!

Smokehouse Barbecue

Folks love the hickory smoked barbecue chicken wings, as well as the scrumptious Porker Sandwich with tender marinated pulled pork on a brioche bun.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

LC’s Bar-B-Que

The line is long for their outstanding, hefty and hearty barbecue rib tip, short and long end rib and sausage plates.

Füd Restaurant

Vegans and vegetarians still get a barbecue fix with the extraordinary Jack Barbecue sandwich made with oven roasted jack fruit (a giant, prickly oval fruit grown in Latin America, India, Africa and Southeast Asia), covered in vegan bbq sauce and glazed with sweet pickle Thrillanaise or spicy Chilinaise, kosher pickles and onions, and served pan-seared or panini style. (Adventurous carnivores, you probably wouldn’t know this wasn’t meat if we didn’t tell ya!)

It’s Late Night with ...

B. B.’s Lawnside Blues & BBQ

The night is still young for the Walter’s Mixed Meat Sandwich—a sizeable sesame seed bun piled high with chopped beef, ham, turkey, pulled pork, Italian sauces and burnt ends marinated in sweet barbecue sauce—and The Big One—three pieces of white bread or a sesame seed bun piled high with thinly sliced pit-smoked beef, ham or turkey. (Open until 10 p.m. four nights a week.)
