The Kansas City Current arrived in the Heart of America for the 2021 season, strengthening KC’s place as the Soccer Capital of America. The team now plays its home matches at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan., alongside Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City

The Current went undefeated for 13 consecutive matches during the 2022 regular season—just the team’s second season in play—in order to achieve the second-longest unbeaten streak in the league’s history. Following a fifth-place finish at the end of the regular season, the team began the NWSL Playoffs by defeating the Houston Dash, 2-1, in its first round matchup, then went on to earn a place in the NWSL Championship with a 2-0 semifinal victory over OL Reign.

AD Franch

Even before the title game’s arrival, key members of the Current have garnered attention for standout performances throughout the season. Goalkeeper AD Franch is one of three nominees for NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, while head coach Matt Potter is nominated for recognition as the league’s Coach of the Year.

Additionally, Kansas City Current midfielder Lo'eau LaBonta was named to the NWSL's 2022 Best XI First Team, while Franch and defender Hailie Mace both earned Best XI Second Team honors.

The team has already begun cementing its place in sports history. Owners Angie Long, Chris Long and Brittany Mahomes have brought world-class new facilities to the Kansas City area, debuting a state-of-the-art training complex for the team in Parkville, Mo., in June 2022.

The 11,500-seat stadium will occupy a prime location along the Missouri River within Berkley Riverfront Park, featuring renowned KC restaurant leaders Megan and Colby Garrelts as the venue’s chef partners.

The stadium is slated to serve as the team’s matchday home beginning in 2024. Season ticket deposits at KC Current Stadium can be placed now.
