Kansas City Celebrates a Summer of International Soccer
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially two years away, but soccer fans don’t have to wait until then to see the world’s best playing here in the Heartland.
Kansas City is hosting four international tournaments this summer—Copa America, the inaugural Summer Cup, the Leagues Cup and the Women’s Cup.
That means more than a dozen teams from eight countries will visit Kansas City over the span of just three months.
Here’s what fans can expect in the Soccer Capital of America.
COMEBOL Copa America
Copa America is the oldest national team tournament in the world, and Kansas City is one of 13 host cities—the only in the Midwest.
First, Children’s Mercy Park will welcome two-time Copa America champions Peru and Canada to the pitch for the first Copa America match ever in Kansas City.
Then the U.S. Men’s National Team brings the action to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium when it takes on Uruguay. The USMNT is unbeaten all-time in Kansas City, including a scoreless draw against Uruguay in 2022.
Tickets are already on sale for both of these marquee matchups:
- Peru vs Canada – 5 p.m. June 25
- USA vs Uruguay – 8 p.m. July 1
NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup
The inaugural Summer Cup will feature all 14 NWSL clubs and six LIGA MX Femenil teams. Of the top five group winners, the top four will advance to the semifinals in August.
The Current will host their group, featuring the Houston Dash, Mexico’s Pachuca, and six-time LIGA MX Femenil champions Tigres UANL at CPKC Stadium.
Fans can snag a Summer Cup 3-Pack to cheer on the Current at all three of their matches:
- KC Current vs Houston Dash – 7 p.m. July 20
- KC Current vs Pachuca – 7 p.m. July 27
- KC Current vs Tigres UANL – 7 p.m. Aug. 1
Leagues Cup
There are even more primetime matchups in store this summer when the 2024 Leagues Cup comes to Children’s Mercy Park.
Sporting KC will host the Chicago Fire and 10-time LIGA MX champions Deportivo Toluca FC. Tickets are already on sale for these primetime matches:
- Sporting vs Chicago Fire – 8 p.m. July 28
- Sporting vs Toluca FC – 8 p.m. Aug. 5
And there’s a lot on the line. The top three finishers in the tournament qualify for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Women's Cup
The Current are also hosting even more teams from around the globe in the Women’s Cup.
The tournament will also feature the 2023 African Champion Mamelodi Sundowns, 2023 Copa de la Reina Champion Atlético de Madrid, and Japanese powerhouse INAC Kobe Leonessa.
