Kansas City's Hispanic Community
Produced in partnership with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City
During the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce National Conference in the Heart of America, don't miss the chance to connect with KC's rich local culture.
Here's where to find favorite restaurants, cultural institutions and more in three districts that hold significance among Kansas City's Hispanic community.
Southwest Blvd.
A well-known thoroughfare running through the heart of the city, Southwest Blvd. is home to many of the staples within KC's Latin dining scene.
Start the day at either of two Latin American coffee shops along the street. Café Ollama takes pride in its carefully crafted café de olla, while the menu at Café Corazón features empanadas, alfajores, yerba mate and more.
When it's time for lunch or dinner, you'll have more than a few choices to consider:
- El Patron
- El Pueblito
- La Fonda El Taquito
- La Mexico KC
- Manny’s Mexican Restaurant
- Margarita’s
- Ponak’s Mexican Kitchen
- Ricos Tacos Lupe
Before you depart from the Boulevard, stop by Palacana, a popular pick for paletas and aguas frescas.
Westside
A storied KC district with deep roots as a home for many Latin American residents, the Westside neighborhood is rich with charm. Grab a table at Los Alamos Cocina for all-day Mexican fare or take home an assortment of Sonoran-style tortillas from Yoli Tortilleria, a James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Bakery.
The neighborhood is also home to two of Kansas City’s pre-eminent institutions serving Latino communities: The Guadalupe Centers and the Mattie Rhodes Center. Founded in 1919, the Guadalupe Centers holds designation from the National Register of Historic Places as one of the country’s oldest operating agencies serving Latinos. In addition to providing family, youth and community services, Mattie Rhodes is home to an art center and gallery that hosts regular tours and rotating exhibits.
