Family Fun in Overland Park

Sponsored by Overland Park

There’s a reason Overland Park is consistently ranked among the best places to live. From interactive museums to suburban farmsteads, family fun is easy to find.

DISCOVER DOWNTOWN

Overland Park Farmer's Market

Start the day in downtown Overland Park walking through the famous Farmer’s Market. Check out goods from dozens of vendors, and be sure to grab a few sweet treats from local bakers and candy makers.

After you check out the farmer’s market, venture through the rest of downtown Overland Park and walk over to Strang Hall for some lunch! This food hall has options for every taste, and the lawn is a great place to relax while the kids play.

EXPLORE OUTDOORS

Deanna Rose Farmstead

Make your next stop at the Deanna Rose Farmstead. This suburban farm is home to nearly 250 animals and a must for any animal lovers. Visitors can feed baby goats and go fishing in the pond. Several playgrounds and gardens offer perfect pit stops as you explore the farm.

The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

If you’re looking for more plants (and a few less animals), take an adventure to the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. There are multiple hiking trails and gardens to explore, including the Children’s Discovery Garden.

DAY AT THE MUSEUM

Museum at Prairiefire

The Museum at Prairiefire is great for weaving some science in with entertainment. The museum includes traveling exhibits along with a Discover Room, a hands-on space for children to reconstruct dinosaur skeletons or hold some of the museum’s live critters.

Continue the museum tour and stop by the Johnson County Museum to check out KidsScape. This interactive exhibit offers kiddos a chance to travel back in time. They can experience life on an 1870s farm, sell produce at a local market, or practice building a new house for a family.

COOL COMPETITION

Chicken N Pickle

Turn things up a notch with a family pickleball competition at SERV or Chicken N Pickle. SERV offers both indoor and outdoor courts and plenty of slots for open play hours. Chicken N Pickle is a full-on entertainment complex with plenty of pickleball courts, as well as other yard games like cornhole, bocce, and giant Jenga.

SWEET TREATS

Andy's Frozen Custard

End the day with something sweet from any of the locally-loved ice cream shops. If you’re hanging out at Chicken N Pickle, Andy’s is just down the road and a favorite for warm evenings.

It’s hard to beat Sweet Caroline’s, a family-owned spot and long-time staple in Overland Park. Or, head to The Golden Scoop, a newer addition to the ice cream scene and especially loved because of their mission. The Golden Scoop is a non-profit ice cream shop that provides meaningful employment for individuals with developmental disabilities, on top of delicious scoops.

Live animals, beautiful parks, delicious eats, and a side of sports – what else do you need for some guaranteed family fun?
