Itinerary – Royals Weekend in Kansas City
From clutch hits and stolen bases to Friday-night fireworks and outfield experiences, spend your day at The K to enjoy Kansas City Royals baseball—and your weekend in Kansas City to savor the City of Fountains—with this can’t-miss itinerary.
Day 1 – Friday
Night
Begin your weekend at the ballpark with a Friday night game at Kauffman Stadium, featuring kid-centric experiences in the outfield, budget-friendly Buck Nights, nine innings of Kansas City Royals entertainment and fireworks after the game.
No matter how you play it, there’s no way to lose—a night at The K is one of the best values in the city. Start with a tailgate in the parking lot, the perfect kickoff to the perfect evening (and don’t forget to stock up on local craft beer from the likes of Boulevard Brewing Co. and KC Bier Co., to just name a couple).
Afterwards, if craving a snack, make your way to the Crossroads Arts District, where you’ll find Town Topic, an after-hours staple that’s been slinging burgers, hash browns, shakes and pies since the 1930s. Just across the street is the Crossroads Hotel, where you’ll find the XR Café, a classier take on late-night bite.
Day 2 – Saturday
Morning
Regardless of when you rise, breakfast and brunch options always shine in Kansas City. Sample some of most innovative chefs working today by trying elevated comfort classics at Rye on the Country Club Plaza and meat-and-three Southern delicacies at Queer Eye-featured EJ’s Urban Eatery in the West Bottoms.
For something more relaxed, try made-to-order mini donuts at Donutology in Westport. If you’re staying near the stadium, hit up the Distrikt Biskuit House, a fried chicken sandwich spot inside Adam’s Mark Hotel.
Want to enjoy KC ‘cue? Char Bar offers an excellent brunch that showcases slow-smoked specialties (including crunchy, juicy burnt ends) and yard games like croquet, bocce and cornhole.
Afternoon
Once you’ve properly refueled, head to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, a mecca of African American baseball history. Interactive exhibits, a short film voiced by James Earl Jones and a replica baseball diamond with statues of Negro Leagues legends showcase the incredible stories of courageous pioneers in sport and culture in this 18th & Vine Historic Jazz District institution.
Families may want to explore Crown Center next. There they’ll find LEGOLAND Discovery Center, SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium and Hallmark’s Kaleidoscope, all hands-on experiences bound to boost imagination.
For those in search of adventure, take the KC Streetcar around a tour of some of KC’s most memorable neighborhoods such as the Crossroads, the Power & Light District and River Market. Must-see stops include craft breweries, local distilleries, boutique shopping and more.
Evening
If you’ve got tickets for the Saturday game, head on out to the ballpark to enjoy the sights, sounds and thrills of the Royals. Or, if you’d rather, grab dinner and catch the game at The Peanut or No Other Pub, two of KC’s most popular sports bars.
Day 3 – Sunday
Morning
On your final day in Kansas City, commemorate your trip with some Royals memorabilia courtesy of Rally House. With locations at the Plaza, in the Power & Light District, in Independence, Olathe and more, every person on your trip can find what they need to show off their spirit.
Whether you snagged Sunday afternoon tickets or you’re heading home, finish the weekend right with another helping of Kansas City barbecue, this time from any of these local favorites:
- Arthur Bryant’s Barbecue
- County Road Ice House
- Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue
- Gates Bar-B-Q
